Wheelchair Lifts for Stadiums

Bank One Ball Park Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona had a situation where they needed to access the playing field from the stands. There were cases where dignitaries, and even the anthem singers were in wheelchairs, and needed to come out of the stadium stands and right onto the field. Bank One also had other areas in, and outside of the actual ball park where they wanted to be able to provide wheelchair access.

Project Constraints:
• Nothing permanent could be installed that would interfere with the players dugouts or the actual playing field.
• The wheelchair lift needed to be portable to provide access at various locations on the stadium property
• The wheelchair lift would have to roll easily on grass and on concrete
• The wheelchair lift would have to function reliably in different types of weather, from extremely hot to cool and rainy.

The Solution
Adaptive provided the stadium with a Mobilift CX portable wheelchair lift with a rough terrain option that provided larger wheels for rolling on rough or uneven surfaces.

The Outcome
Bank One Ball Park Stadium was able to bring people onto the playing field from the stands with dignity, and then return them safely to their seat. The lift's rough terrain option allowed the lift to be rolled across the turf to where it was required, and the standard wheels were great for rolling on concrete in other areas of the complex where the lift was needed. The manually powered lift did not rely on batteries or require a power source and therefore proved extremely reliable. It could always be counted on to perform, regardless of how long it had remained unused and regardless of the weather conditions. The lightweight construction of the lift (only 268 pounds) made it very easy to operate and move around all parts of the stadium.
