Wheelchair Lifts for Outdoor Use in Parks
The Parks system in Michigan had an educational farm center where they took students to see the animals and barns to better understand farm life. As part of their program, they offer hay rides in the summer, and sleigh rides in the winter. The challenge was to lift kids in wheelchairs up to the wagons for the hay rides in the summer and into the sleighs in the winter.
Project Constraints:
• The wheelchair lift had to reliably function outdoors in the heat of summer and the cold of winter.
• Although they do load from a central area, the lift could be easily loaded and transported in the back of a pickup in case they had to load or unload children at different spots in the park
• Electrical power was not always available
The Solution
Adaptive provided a standard Mobilift CX wheelchair lift with a 30" bridge ramp to span over the stairs leading to the loading area.
The Outcome
The park now offers "handicapped accessible" rides all year long. The Mobilift CX is made of aluminum and stainless steel and provides reliable accessibility for the kids in all kinds of weather conditions - indoors or outdoors. The lift is manually powered and therefore no electricity was needed to operate the lift.
